Kit 1 – Tuning via Diagnostic Port or ECM Harness
These kits include the TuneTap, a user-friendly interface that walks you through the programming steps to identify the vehicle and read the ECM. TuneTap requires no external power source, it gets power from the vehicle when connected to the diagnostic port (OBDII, 9 Pin Deutsch or brand specific diagnostic cables).
Everything required to read ECMs comes in one case so you can throw it in your pickup and head to the field to read ECMs for trucks and equipment, then return at a later date to load the custom tuning back onto the vehicle. Each kit comes with the most commonly used cables for truck or off-highway, cables for specific applications are also available.
Kit 2 – Tuning via Diagnostic Port, ECM Harness or BDM
These kits include the TuneTap and ProTune Station to provides complete access to all ECM tuning by both diagnostic ports and BDM (Background Debug Mode = opening the ECM enclosure to access the circuit board).
BDM tuning is not for everyone (but it’s not that difficult either). We recommend having a dedicated workspace for the ProTune in a clean environment where it’s not going to be bumped as even the smallest move on the circuit board can result in a short circuit and ECM failure.
Instructions are provided for all steps of BDM tuning so don’t feel you need a degree in geekology to work inside the ECM enclosure.
The Tuning Process: With both kits the ECM calibration is read via the diagnostic port of directly from the ECM circuit board then sent to J-Ball by email or loaded to our server, we create the desired tune and send it back where you load the new calibration to the ECM.
